An EF-S lens. $1,000. I told myself repeatedly that I would not buy it. I mean come on, a non-L series lens for this much money? You have got to be kidding me? After killing myself over the decision between the Canon EF 24-105mm F4L IS USM and the Canon EF 24-70mm F2.8L USM lenses, I somehow ended..

Like so many people, I bought this to replace my kit lens. In my case that's the 18-55mm IS associated with the XSI. The main issue I had with that lens was the variable (and small) aperature. I wanted constant 2.8 without sacrificing zoom or IS. That's what you get here.

I purchased the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens primarily for my wedding photography business. This lens has proven to be more valuable to me than I ever could have imagined.

This is definitely my go to lens for Portraiture. I got the Nikon D3000 with kit lens and this, the Nikkor 55-200mm was a welcome addition to my kit a year later. It has an aperture minimum range starting from 4.0 at 55mm to 5.6 at 200mm - a noticable drop from the 5.6 aperture at 55mm's

I love this lense! The zoom is very powerful and is great for landscapes and wildlife photographs, I got an amazing photo of a moose because of this lense! It is easy to attach and easy to store in in my camera bag when not in use. It is delicate though, and you need to be careful.

You would have to love the light weight compact style of this zoom lense. That is probably the most I liked about it.

I was very surprised when I got it out of the box, it is a lot heavier than expected, which brings along the problem when you have the lens about halfway and look down or up than it opens or closes under it's own weight which is a problem sometimes but you are likely to be holding the lens anyway.

Well this lens is a combination of a far and close zoom lens. This is why you do not need to carry around two different lens for the same purpose.

Overall, this lens would normally get a 5-star rating from me. It's sharp, quick to focus, quiet and not overly heavy. I bought it because it was the only lens in this focal lenth range with Image Stabilization. I used it twice. I was very happy with the operation.
